Proposed Plutonium Consolidation EIS - The DOE is proposing to consolidate the production, purification and assembly of radioisotopic power systems (RPS ) at the Idaho National Laboratory. Find out why we don't want south-central Idaho to become the Fort Knox of plutonium production...
Proposed Accelerated Retrieval Project - The DOE is in the process of exhuming radioactive and transuranic waste from Pit 4 and Pit 5 at the Radioactive Wate Management Complex at INL. The waste in these unlined pits has been leaching into the Snake River Aquifer and needs the most thorough and safe clean-up plan in order to stave off further radioactive contamination of the sole-source of drinking water. Is this plan the best, and should it be replicated to clean up the numerous other pits and trenches of waste that lie fallow yet threaten the drinking water of thousands?
Hazardous Waste Management Act/Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) permit modification for the Idaho Nuclear Technology and Environmental Center (INTEC) High-level Liquid Waste Evaporator that DOE euphemistically calls the "Evaporator Tank System (CPP-659) - INL produces, manages, and “treats” the most deadly material on the planet - high-level radioactive and hazardous chemical waste without the required federal and state environmental permits crucial to ensure that all statutory emission standards to protect human health and the environment are in place before operations commence. What goes up in the air, must come down somewhere………

ONGOING WORK

KYNF monitors both ongoing and planned projects at INL by interfacing with DOE staff in private and public meetings, site tours, public hearings and through a presence at the quarterly Citizens’ Advisory Board Meetings. We also communicate and coordinate with other regional and national environmental groups, which can be found on our Links page. The technical information we utilize is supplied by these groups and our own research, the DOE and other websites, and through the INL Library located in Idaho Falls. Information that is sought but not available through these sources is secured by filing through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Jackson Hole is now a venue that the DOE regularly schedules in the region as part of their effort to keep the public informed. KYNF has a presence at these meetings, and after careful research and planning, submits comment based upon our mission goals and history. KYNF has the obligation to be the voice for a community located in close proximity to INL that has been, and will continue to be impacted by events and decisions made there.
